Doja Cat's 2024 Met Gala outfit has ignited controversy among her followers, with a few calling for her to be "banned" from attending in the future.

Last year, she captivated the Met Gala crowd by paying tribute to Karl Lagerfeld's cherished cat, Choupette.

This tribute had fans highly anticipating her choice of attire for this year's event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York.

The theme for this year was "The Garden of Time," drawn from J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story.

The exhibit was called "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," and for this event, the musician chose a strikingly unconventional outfit.

She made her appearance in what looked like a bathroom ensemble: a towel wrapped around her body, another towel turban-style on her head, and a wet, oversized T-shirt, giving the impression she had just come from a shower.

In her initial appearance, Doja genuinely seemed as though she had transitioned directly from the bathroom to the red carpet.

Her makeup was styled to look smudged, as if it had run, although she had managed to step into a pair of platform heels to finish her look.

Her second outfit showcased Doja, whose full name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, without the towel.

She traded the towel for a soaking wet, oversized T-shirt and removed the hair towel, unveiling her bleached blonde hair.

Social media quickly buzzed with opinions about her unconventional attire.

One user on X commented: "If this is her only outfit then don't invite Doja Cat next year. Take note Anna Wintour. Didn't you ban her from Met Gala last year?"

"Looks like she's never getting invited again, I fear," remarked another.

A third voiced their opinion, saying: "Doja cat should be banned from the #metgala if this is the final look…"

Another was quite blunt: "Doja Cat - I would've sent her home and banned her from all future Met Galas for wearing this nonsense 0/10."

Yet, some applauded her bold fashion statement.

A user praised her, writing: "She has a mind like Gaga when it comes to fashion and performative art pieces fr.

"Like, this is far from being the most opulent outfit there, but she just constantly thinks outside the box. I always respect her artistic vision and talent."

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the singer detailed the creative reasoning behind her look.

She shared: "So, I know that people are going to do flowers but my flower of choice is the most used flower which is cotton.

"And so I wanted to do a white T-shirt, also because a white T-shirt is timeless and it felt very poetic to choose this.

"And I knew it wasn't going to blend in too much and I don't really like to blend in. So, we went with this."

Her reasoning is pretty hard to contest, isn't it?

Doja further clarified that she was indeed 'actually wet,' with her team applying hair gel across her body to achieve the effect.
