Donald Trump issues pardon to former national security adviser Michael Flynn

United States President, Donald Trump, has issued a pardon to his former National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn.

Trump posted on Twitter tonight saying:

"It is my Great Honor to announce that General Michael T Flynn has been granted a Full Pardon.

"Congratulations to GenFlynn and his wonderful family, I know you will now have a truly fantastic Thanksgiving."

Flynn recently admitted to lying to the FBI about his contact with the former Russian ambassador to the US.

He then became a witness in Robert Muellers investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Flynn is the second Trump associate convicted in this investigation to be granted clemency by the president.

The pardon rids him of the current criminal case, despite his guilty plea of lying to the FBI about his Russia contacts.

Meanwhile, China has today congratulated Joe Biden on his election victory over Donald Trump.

Xi Jinping, Vice President of the People's Republic of China, said he hoped Beijing and Washington could develop a healthy and stable bilateral relationship.
