James McClean named Stoke City Player of the Year

Republic of Ireland winger James McClean has been voted as Stoke City's Player of the Year.

The Derry native was one of the key men for the Potters as they avoided relegation from the Championship.

McClean, 31, was voted as the club's best player this season in an online poll.

The Derry native spoke of his delight after claiming the award.

"I just want to say firstly how proud I am to pick up the club's Player of the Year award. I would like to thank the fans for their support throughout the whole season and their votes. I will work extremely hard to try to emulate and better myself next season," McClean said.

McClean made 37 appearances this season, recording seven goals and seven assists.
