Justin Timberlake played the most depressing concert ever tonight

One of the best celebrity stories of the week was that Justin Timberlake had decided to support England in the World Cup.

The singer has been very vocal about his support of the Three Lions this week, even signing 'football's coming home' at one of his gigs in the UK this week.

Well, Justin had a lot of fans heading to his gig in the O2 in London tonight and he was pretty sure they wouldn't want to miss tonight's semi final against Croatia.

So, in order to keep his fans happy (and bums on seats, we'd imagine) he decided to treat his concert goers by opening the doors of the 02 Arena in London early to screen the entire match before he took to the stage.

"So here is what we are going to do," he said. "I spoke to the O2 and for the first time ever doors will open at 6.30pm and we're going to play this England-Croatia match up on my big screens.

"So come here and we will watch it together. I want to see it, you want to see it, we all want to see it.

"We're going to watch this together, and you know what? It's coming home."
Is it though Justin? Is it really?

I heard theres a big game on tomorrow before our show... so I had a little chat with @TheO2. SOUND ON. Doors open at 630. #MOTWTOUR pic.twitter.com/xH93fjYE4N

Look, we get it, it's fantastic in theory but unless you've been living under a rock for the past hour or so, you'll now know that Croatia beat England in extra time and sent the Three Lions packing.

So, we checked the wonderful world of Twitter to see if he followed through on his promise and he did.

That must have been a barrel of laughs.

The O2 are on their feet for you. @England you did everyone proud. Big thanks to @jtimberlake for letting your fans watch the show. #ThreeLions pic.twitter.com/HRT5RvNyxJ

Thankfully, it seems that Justin is cheering the crowd up after the heartbreaking loss to Croatia:

Fair play to Croatia, better on the night. And shoutout to @jtimberlake, one of the hardest things hes probably had to do lifting this deflated/tearful audience. Hes got the place rocking again. pic.twitter.com/rZ2AmLax1p

Still though, we're sure the second he plays cry me a river, it'll be a little bit...awkward.

@jtimberlake broadcasted tonight's match live during his show, only for England to lose I hope he sang 'cry me a river' after the final whistle #CROENG #WorldCup

Spare a thought for the poor bastards who got to watch 120 minutes of nail biting football and now have to sit through Justin Timberlake.

Anyway, look, it was a lovely gesture and we're only feeling a little smug because, well, because we're Irish. Check out some of the hilarious Irish relations to the result here and have yourself a good giggle. Not that we're a nation of begrudgers or anything...
