Katy Perry Jets to Space on Jeff Bezos’ Rocket Ship

Katy Perry’s no longer fireworks, she’s a certified space astronaut!

On April 14, the “Teenage Dream” singer joined five other women in an all-female space voyage aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket. Flying with her on the historic flight were CBS presenter Gayle King, Bezos’ fiancee Lauren Sanchez, former Nasa rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

The six ladies boarded the rocket ship from its West Texas launch site at approximately 08.30 local time. The flight lasted about 11 minutes and carried the women 100 kilometres above Earth, crossing the internationally recognised boundary of space.

Clad in identical blue spacesuits, the ladies displayed a vast array of emotions as they entered the capsule, ranging from King’s nervous wince to Perry’s wide smile. They each rang a bell on the way in, a tradition for every departing astronaut.

Upon returning to Earth, Perry immediately got on her knees and kissed the ground.

“I feel super connected to love,” she said after.

The pop star had carried a daisy onboard, a tribute to her daughter Daisy, whom she shares with actor Orlando Bloom. Perry showed off the flower during a period of weightlessness in space and according to King, the singer belted Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World” as the spacecraft headed back to Earth.
