Michael Healy-Rae claims Government 'think they're God'

A number of independent TD's have hit out at the Government for keeping places of worship closed for Easter - with Deputy Michael Healy-Rae saying 'they think they're God'.

The Rural Independents plan to raise the issue in the Dil later this week, claiming Ireland is an "outlier" when compared to other European countries.

Under the current restrictions, places of worship are only open for private prayer and services are held online.

And Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae launched a stinging criticism of the Government for enforcing those rules.

Superior

"They think that theyre God and that theyre the superior person," he said.

We are only small people in this world, theres a greater person there.

''It doesnt stop and end with us - there is a greater being and there is a greater person there, and its not the Government and its not the media either.''

Michael Healy-Rae and his brother Danny went viral after a fierce shouting argument with the Taoiseach in the Dil recently.

And the duo clashed last month with Labour TD Duncan Smith over their background - with the Dublin TD criticising the pair for claiming they were working class despite holding a number of vested interests outside of the Dil.
