Mitchelstown: Brothers involved in tragic incident named locally

The brothers involved in the tragic incident in Mitchelstown, Co.Cork overnight have been named locally.

59-year-old Johnny, 60-year-old Paddy and 66-year-old Willie Hennessy are all dead after the incident.

Johnny and Willie were both single and lived on the family farm.

Paddy, known as 'Pa' was a separated father of two who was living in Mitchelstown.

Garda attended a scene at Corrogorm, about 5km outside of the town, late on Thursday evening.

They were responding to a call from a woman who had said her father had been killed.

Upon arrival, Garda found a body in the farm yard. On entering a nearby barn, Garda discovered a second body.

A national alert was then sent out for a Red Toyota Corolla, which was found hours later outside a nearby church in Killacluig.

This afternoon, officers confirmed that a third body, that of Willie, had been recovered from a nearby river.

Local Councillor Frank Roche said that locals are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

"It is frightening to think that we have another one of these double murders, it is a completely quiet area, this time yesterday you would have seen hardly anyone around here," he toldCorkBeo.

"People are absolutely devestated. I am calling on the Garda and the legal system to do something, it is an absolute disgrace the way that these situations are handled.

"Our Garda need to be trained more in it, something has to be done because we are going to see more of it.

"I get phone calls on a daily basis about people having problems with farms, people's lives and their feelings are being badly hurt".

Its hard to come to terms with. I feel very sad for the family and the people of the locality and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very sad time.''
