Tyler Stanaland may have exited Netflix's "Selling Sunset" spinoff "Selling the OC" after leaving The Oppenheim Group, but his divorce from "Pitch Perfect" star Brittany Snow was a major part of the reality show's second season.
Stanaland and Snow were engaged in 2019, and married in March 2020. However, shortly after the first season of "Selling the OC" premiered in August 2022, the couple announced that they had decided to divorce in September of that year.
In season 2 of the Netflix series, Stanaland opened up about processing their divorce while also forming a closer relationship with his friend and coworker, Alex Hall, culminating in a cliffhanger kiss in the finale (though that relationship ultimately never moved forward).
Here's a full timeline of Stanaland and Snow's relationship and split, and what they've said about their divorce.
2018: Snow and Stanaland start dating after meeting on Instagram

Snow began to post photos of her and Stanaland on Instagram in 2018, telling Us Weekly that she was "in love" with Stanaland in September of that year.
Stanaland told The Knot in 2020 that he had previously considered Snow to be an "unattainable crush," saying that he found her attractive after watching her in "Pitch Perfect."
Snow, for her part, told The Knot that she knew Stanaland through Instagram, and one of her friends referred to him as Snow's "dream boyfriend who lives in Orange County." Then she realized that he was following her.
"I sent a direct message with the most embarrassing pickup line. A dad joke," Stanaland told The Knot. It worked, Snow said, but only because she already had a crush on him.
The pair, who already had mutual friends, went on their first date to get tacos, Stanaland told People in 2020.
"There was a certain amount of tequila consumed, and then we just started talking a lot," he told People. "Then we fell in love and nothing's really changed, we're still eating tacos and margaritas together."
February 2019: The couple reveal they're engaged

Snow and Stanaland announced their engagement in February 2019, The Knot reported, attending the 2019 Emmys as an engaged couple later that year. Snow told the publication that Stanaland proposed to her in their kitchen, which was also the location of their first kiss. Stanaland also organized an engagement party at their favorite restaurant — and had paid attention to what Snow wanted in a ring.
"I didn't even know that he was paying close attention but at one point, I told him that I liked this ring and then I guess I had shared a picture of it with a friend and he got the picture from her," Snow told The Knot.
October 2019: The couple shares an inside look at their NYC apartment
The engaged couple shared a peek into their Greenwich Village loft in New York City, with People publishing photos of the space.
According to People, the then-couple partnered with Crate & Barrel to furnish the space. Stanaland said that they had similar style sensibilities and didn't clash when it came to decorating their home.
"For us, there wasn't as much conflict; it was a pretty seamless process," he told People.
February 2020: Snow and Stanaland throw a joint bachelor and bachelorette party
Stanaland and Snow told Us Weekly in February 2020 that they had hosted a joint bachelor and bachelorette party ahead of their wedding. While they spent the first night separate with their respective parties, they joined up for a "joint day of fun."
Snow's bachelorette weekend in Palm Springs included some of her former "Pitch Perfect" costars, including Anna Kendrick, Kelley Jakle, Anna Camp, and Chrissie Fit. The couple reunited the Saturday of their joint weekend for a pool party, Us Weekly reported.
March 2020: The couple marries in Malibu
According to The Knot, Snow and Stanaland married at Cielo Farms, a venue close to Los Angeles.
In a joint interview with Stanaland about their wedding, Snow told Insider's Erin McDowell that the couple's dog, Billie Jean September Snow, would serve as their flower girl. Stanaland and Snow also said that they wanted their wedding to be "symbolic of our relationship and our style," meaning that it would be "low-key" but "the best party that our friends have ever gone to." That included featuring some of their favorite things: tequila and tacos.

Late 2021-Early 2022: Stanaland finds himself in the middle of an office scandal, as shown on 'Selling the OC' season 1
Stanaland stars in "Selling the OC," a spinoff of Netflix's "Selling Sunset" that premiered in August 2022. On the show, he found himself in the middle of drama when his coworker Kayla Cardona tried to kiss him after drinking at an afterparty. (Elite Daily deduced that season 1 of the show was likely filmed between November 2021 and May 2022.)
"She does cross a certain line, and out of respect for me, and then, out of the respect that I have for my wife and myself, it's just not something that I need to be around, and I'm just gonna separate myself from it," Stanaland said in a conversation with some of his coworkers about the incident, which wasn't shown onscreen, in season 1, episode 5.
Stanaland and Cardona spoke about the incident in season 1, episode 6. Cardona apologized for her actions, saying that Stanaland would "never be put in that type of situation again." Stanaland said that he wanted to set boundaries in their relationship, but said that they had been "all over each other a little bit" and apologized to Cardona for that.
He said on the show that there were "no issues" between him and Snow at the time, and that they regularly communicated.
In season 1, episode 7, Tyler ranked the "loves of my life": surfing, his dogs and his wife, and real estate — in that order.
In a conversation during that episode, he also said that things were going well with Snow, saying that having her home was like "date night every night."
August 2022: Stanaland says that Snow thought his 'Selling the OC' drama was 'entertaining'
Speaking with Us Weekly after the show premiered, Stanaland shared Snow's reaction to it.
"She watched it. I mean, she thought — like everybody else did — it's entertaining. It's a lot, but it's good," Stanaland said.
He added that the then-couple kept their "professional lives separate," and that "Selling the OC" was something that he "did for myself."
Stanaland told Us Weekly that his comment about ranking surfing above his wife in terms of his priorities was a joke, and that Snow took it well.
"She knows how much I love surfing, but she knows how much I care about her, my family," he said. "She wasn't mad, but she was like, 'You would say that.'"
Stanaland, however, declined to share Snow's reaction to the drama with Cardona, saying that her reaction was "something that I will just keep between us."
September 2022: Snow and Stanaland announce their split
On September 14, several weeks after "Selling the OC" season 1 dropped on Netflix, Snow shared a photo of her and Stanaland on the subway, writing in the caption of the since-deleted post that they had decided to split.
"This decision was made with love and mutual respect for one another," she wrote in the caption, previously viewed by BI. "We have realized we need to take some time and make sure we are each living our most fulfilling and authentic lives."
Snow asked for privacy during the process and wrote that they would continue to prioritize their relationship for themselves and their dog, Charlie.
People reported, citing multiple anonymous sources, that Stanaland's drama on "Selling the OC" was the "final straw" in their marriage, though they had previously had issues.
One source told People that Snow didn't want Stanaland to go on the show, but that he was determined to "make a name for himself." Another anonymous source told People that all of the women on "Selling the OC" were "obsessed" with Stanaland and that it had "taken a toll on his marriage 100 percent."
March 2023: Snow says she's gone through a 'hard and beautiful' year
In an Instagram post half a year after announcing her divorce, Snow marked her 37th birthday.
"This year has been hard and beautiful," she wrote. "As I get older, I am stronger than I ever knew (except my back seems weaker and hurts way more.) I am so grateful for all these days. Thank you for the birthday love my friends."
May 2023: Snow says she faced 'the hardest mental health challenge' of her life
In a joint Bustle interview with her friend Jaspre Guest, Snow discussed her mental health. Though she didn't explicitly reference Stanaland or their 2022 split, Snow said that within the last year she'd gone through "the hardest mental health challenge I've ever faced."
"In one day, in a matter of hours, my life turned completely upside down," Snow said. "I was blindsided and every thing I thought I knew, held sacred and truly trusted in my life was completely different."
Snow added that a couple of days after that event, her grandma died, further testing her mental health.
"Thank god for my friends. I don't know if I would have made it without them," she told Bustle. "They reminded me who I was and the things I stood for. I used all the tools I knew. All of them."
Early-mid 2023: Stanaland opens up about his and Snow's ongoing divorce proceedings — and later kisses costar Alex Hall — on 'Selling the OC' season 2
In season 2, episode 1 of "Selling the OC," Stanaland spoke about his split from Snow, and the difficulties of going through the divorce process in the public eye.
"I was married for two years, and as of recently I'm going through a public divorce," he said in a confessional. "Still being finalized, it takes some time. But it is difficult and heartbreaking, but it doesn't have to be a negative thing as well. I think there's a stigma with divorce and change that it all has to be bad, but that's not necessarily true."
Stanaland told his friend and fellow agent Alex Hall that while it wasn't "easy," there was "a lot you can learn" both from successful relationships and divorce. Now, he said, he's working on finding himself again.

In season 2, episode 8 of "Selling the OC," Hall's family interrogated Stanaland about what he's looking for in a relationship when he stopped by to pick something up. Stanaland said that he was "taking it slow" dating, but was looking for something "easy." Hall's grandmother then teased him that there was a single girl — Hall — sitting next to him. After he left, Hall said that if Stanaland made a move, she'd be "open to exploring."
Later in the episode, while sitting together in a hot tub, Stanaland said that he valued Hall's friendship and support. While he didn't think that there would be anything more to their relationship than friendship, he had started to feel more for her.
He also said that the most difficult part of his marriage ending was the idea of starting a new relationship.
"The biggest loss that I felt in my divorce was the fact that I was starting over. Was the fact that I would have to like, meet somebody, and date, and fucking get engaged, and court each other, and then get married," he said.
After weighing what it would mean to be in a relationship together, Stanaland and Hall kissed in the hot tub.
It's not clear exactly when Hall and Stanaland's conversation and their kiss happened, but it would have been sometime between January and the new season's September 7, 2023 premiere — Deadline reported on that day that production for the show's second and third seasons would start later that winter.
July 2023: Stanaland and Snow's divorce is finalized
People reported on July 5 that the divorce was finalized just over five months after Snow had filed. According to court documents obtained by People, the couple's date of separation was listed as September 14, 2022 (the same day as Snow's Instagram post announcing their split).
March 2024: Snow opens up about processing the divorce and her life now
Appearing on Alex Cooper's "Call Her Daddy" podcast promoting her directorial debut "Parachute," Snow reflected on her split from Stanaland in more detail.
Snow first said that "they" — collectively referring to her ex Stanaland and the women he was involved with on "Selling the OC," who she says she didn't know — had taken up "a lot of energy and emotion and time and real estate" in her head and that she didn't want to give them any more of those things because then they'd get "what they wanted." But she made it clear that she was betrayed by Stanaland and was hurt by how their relationship ended.
"I was not aware of a lot of things, and I'll say that. So I will say what people think happened, happened," Snow said, adding later in the interview that some of what had been "alluded to in the press" was true.
"I did not know what was going on. I think as someone who's so hands-on with my career, I think I was just completely shocked that I didn't have a handle on reality in that way," Snow said of missing the signs.
"I have a good sense of character," she said. "I had instincts and I think because I was in love, I didn't trust them."
Snow said "of course" she saw "Selling the OC" and revealed she'd watched it with her dog. "I can laugh about it because I think it's insane and it's so funny," she said. "Like, it's so crazy." She said she went over to a friend's house after and called it "the worst day."
"I really, really shout out and give such thanks to my friends who just laid there with me and they didn't try to fix it," she said. "Because there's nothing to fix. There's nothing to change. It is what it is and they let me just be, and that's what I needed at that time."
Snow appeared to confirm that Stanaland had cheated on her, telling Cooper that she had also been cheated on in other relationships. She said that she was initially angry about the betrayal but came to look at it "from every side" and acknowledge her part in the failure of her marriage in order to release that anger. She added that she doesn't regret the relationship.
"There was so much love, and I think that that gray is hard to understand because it's much more salacious and interesting that it's just like he did this and she did this," she said.
"I don't regret anything that happened because I loved that time that we had when we had it," Snow continued, saying that she was "grateful, in a weird way" because what happened was "a neon fucking sign" that the relationship wasn't working.
Now, Snow said she's realized her patterns in relationships and that she falls in love with "people who had potential" and is working on changing that going into her next relationship. She's single but dating with the intention of finding her person — and she told Cooper she "vacillates" on whether she wants to get married again.
"Marriage is fucking awesome and I loved to be married. I really thrive in a relationship," she said. "I vacillate a little bit of like, can you have that without the paperwork? Just because I've been on the other side."
"But I also am a hopeless romantic," she added. "I love love. I can't help it. And so I would love to be able to believe in marriage again."
