Priorities: CNN Spends Almost 3x More on January 6 Hype Than Bad Economic News

The House Select Committee requested the cooperation of Kevin McCarthy, R-CA (House Minority Leader). CNN returned January 6th to its original position. The Jeff Zucker-led network spent approximately 97 minutes obsessing on the probe from 3:00 to 12:00 Eastern.

Contrary to January 6’s 97 minutes, 19 seconds of coverage, the network spent 2.7% less time on decrepit U.S. economic conditions after a report that showed inflation had risen seven percent over last year. Is that a good number? This was only 35 minutes and 34 second. Worse, it was only 35 minutes and 34 seconds. Jake Tapper, The Lead.

McCarthy made the McCarthy request during CNN Newsroom with Alisyn Camerona and Victor BlackwellHowever, the shows that followed aired after the McCarthy request were led by four other hosts. This is a direct issue that affects most Americans, but it especially impacts the poor and isolated.

Camerota was told by Ryan Nobles, a congressional correspondent. “no doubt a significant development in the investigation into the January 6th insurrection” as McCarthy’s “a central player in all this.”

CNN political analyst and far-left charlatan Carl Bernstein told Tapper the next hour that McCarthy’s refusal to cooperate was part of “a cover-up by the leadership of the Republican party of a conspiracy to undermine the democratic system.”

Without pushback from Tapper, Bernstein spoke in his usual, apocalyptic, divisive tone (click “expand”):

It’s unlike anything else in American history. It takes you back to civil war for a picture of a party as intolerant as what we see now. While it was part the Democratic Party’s political party, there has never been a president in the United States that wanted to organize a coup.

Now, Leader McCarthy and Leader McConnell have embraced the coup and covered up its aftermath. It’s unlike anything else we’ve ever seen in this country.

It is not just a shame, it is also fascinating. They are able to provide the goods. They have the goods. McCarthy is lying about the statements McCarthy made to Donald Trump. They also know how McCarthy spoke to him. It is clear that there has been a coverup, a genuine conspiracy and real stonewalling beyond what was seen in Watergate.

Tonight’s breaking news is a significant step towards the investigation into January 6. It could also indicate the direction that the House Select Committee will be going. The Committee late today asking the House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to volunteer information about communications he had with the former President and the White House — former White House Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows on and around the day. As you may know, McCarthy could be able to speak volumes about the thoughts and words of the ex-President during the violent assault on the Capitol by his supporters.

(….)

He would then torpedo the bipartisan commission and tell members not to vote for it. Additionally, Cheney would be removing Liz Cheney from her leadership position. You also know that Congressman McCarthy said many things in the past and then disappeared.

[MCCARTHY CLIPS]

Kevin McCarthy was speaking about the man who sicced his boss, his colleagues, and his work place. A man who refused to call them off. Now, Kevin McCarthy is smiling with the man who could have got him killed.

Showing his elitism and detachment from what actually matters in the world, Cooper’s show never touched the inflation report, unemployment, wages, or the economy writ large.

CNN Tonight would join him in the next hour as legal analyst Laura Coates — who’s serving as host this week — chose to melt down about how Republicans are the part that engages in “double standards”Rules and how they affect our daily lives “for three and not for me” Instead, think about the economy.

Two hours later, Don Lemon referred to McCarthy’s denunciations of the January 6 committee on his eponymous show as “blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, dancing whatever” And “all a spin.”

It was part 21 minutes seven seconds of coverage that aired on January 6. This, along with being the longest time any show had devoted to it Wednesday, is in sharp contrast to his four minutes 45 second on the economy. “the pain so many Americans are feeling right now.”

Lemon noted a 5 percent decrease in gasoline prices last month, which is evidence of an economy that’s recovering.
