Public warned of jury duty scam doing the rounds

The scam is being sent to members of the public through email

An Garda Siochana is warning the public about yet another scam doing the rounds, this time taking the form of a jury duty scam.

There have been reports of members of the public receiving an email requesting them to follow a link as part of a "jury duty summons".

The sender is purporting to be from the courts and asking people to register their details "in order to get a jury number".

The email reads: "As an Irish Citizen, contributing your own quota to the justice system is very important.

"You have been selected to participate in a court proceeding as a juror. To register your information in order to get a jury number.

"Click on the Justice.ie to register your information in order to get a jury number."

An Garda Siochana is warning the public to not click on the link and has said that official jury summons are sent via An Post.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardai have been alerted to a scam where fraudulent jury service notices are sent by email with a request to click on a link.

"This is a scam. Do not click on links. Genuine jury summons issue via An Post, while other official docs issue by registered post/summons/warrant."
