If you are a college student, you know better than anyone that college is a bundle of fun! You have met people from all over and encountered many fun moments and interesting things that make up for an amazing college experience. However, you also know the dangers that can come with those elements of fun, and knowing this prepares you for staying safe at college parties.

From the small dorm and campus events to homecoming festivities and parties, college has many enjoyable daily activities. While it can be a great experience, it can also come with conflicts that cause you to be cautious of your actions and surroundings. Here are some tips that will assist you with staying safe at college parties throughout your college career.

Never Go Alone To College Parties

This is rule number one to having fun. Never go out to have fun alone. This world is full of people with both good and bad intentions. Unfortunately, while most of us go to parties to have fun, others consciously decide to do otherwise at these parties. Some may unintentionally stumble upon conflict, and others may go just to start problems. Either way, you want to make sure that whatever someone's intentions are, you do not become a victim of those intentions. This is ultimately something that will keep you safe at college parties.

Therefore, every time you go out, ensure you are with someone. Whether it be one person or a group of people, two people are always better than one. You want to make sure that person is someone you can trust, and they will make sure the both of you will return to your homes safely after the fun. It is imperative that the two or more of you are accountable for one another and make sure that no one leaves without the rest!

Research The Event & Location

Research is important in everything that you do. Always do your research first! If you are going to party at someone's home, it is important to know a little about that person and the area of their home where you will be partying. Knowing if the area or person is known for any form of trouble will help you make the right decision that best aligns with your need to be safe.

If a party venue or the host of the party is known to have a party that has been responsible for the harm of someone else, you must decide if going to the party there is the right choice for you. As college students, we have the world at our fingertips, and there is always someone that knows of someone else.

Ask a friend about the party you will attend or take a quick peek at Instagram to view the content and reviews behind their other events. Do your research!

Stay Aware Of Your Surroundings To Stay Safe

Another must in order to stay safe at parties is to be aware of your surroundings. The saying "stay ready so you do not have to get ready" can also be used in the rule book of partying. When negative things take place, they often happen suddenly and abruptly. How will you react in such situations? Stay alert! Always pay attention to who enters the function, who fills the function, and how people are moving.

Things can happen at any moment. So it's best to be aware of your surroundings because it will allow you to be a step ahead if anything negative occurs. There are a couple of things that go into being aware of your surroundings:

  • Keeping up with anything you may be eating or drinking at a party

  • Never sit your belongings down, especially food and beverages

Stay True To You

Making friends can be a little more complicated in college than it seemed in high school. You will encounter people everywhere you go, and although you know that you need to network to develop new connections, you may still find it somewhat difficult. There will be people you people who have had the same experiences as you and some that have not.

You will meet people with different morals and personalities than you, and you may even meet some somewhat similar to you. However, it is important that through all the different personalities, you remain the same. It is important that you remain you.

Remember who you are and why you came to school regardless of who is around you. If your friends are drinking and that's not your thing, stay true to yourself and take a step away. If you see them smoking and you don't smoke, stay true to that. Never feel that because you hang out with someone, you have to conform to their ways or agree with what they do.

There is no limit to the fun. Fun is what you make it, but just make sure it's fun that can still keep you safe at college parties.

Don't Feel Pressured

Feeling pressured may come up several times throughout college; however, you must stay strong and remember your morals. It seems easier said than done. But don't worry, the pressure may become easier if you stay focused and remember why you are in school. Also, remember that while it may seem like all college students want to do the typical things, there are students out there who share your sentiments.

Therefore, never feel pressured to do anything you don't want to do. Pretty soon, you will find yourself surrounded by those who will not make you feel pressured.

All of these things are evident when having an unforgettable but safe college experience. I hope you take all this advice as you continue having fun safely and embark on your college journey.
