Trump caught on camera wearing face mask in public for the first time

The US President had previously mocked former vice president Joe Biden for wearing one

US President Donald Trump has been caught on camera wearing a face mask in public for the very first time.

Trump was visiting the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Saturday when he was captured on tape.

The military hospital for wounded soldiers is not far from Washington and before he entered the facility, in a change of heart, Trump put on a mask.

Speaking to reporters before his visit, he said: "I'll probably have a mask if you must know. I'll probably have a mask.

"I think when you're in a hospital especially in that particular setting, where you are talking to a lot of soldiers, people that in some cases just got off the operating table.

"I think it's a great thing to wear a mask. I've never been against masks but I do believe they have a time and a place."

The news comes after months of Trump being lax when it comes down to wearing face masks in public.

Back in May, when former vice president Joe Biden wore a face mask during a Memorial Day ceremony President Trump mocked him.

For months, despite continuous advice from health officials, Trump refused to wear a mask in public, openly discouraging Americans from doing so.

As reported by CNN, the president's decision comes after White House aides had to repeatedly plead with him to do so to set an example.
