WATCH: South Park set to air hour-long pandemic special

South Park is set to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic head on.

The long-running animated series returns to our screens on September 30 for a one-hour episode titled The Pandemic Special.

The episode sees Randy Marsh try to use the global disaster to fuel his legalized weed sales, Cartman using the pandemic as a way to get out of returning to school, Kyle fretting about social distancing and a scene with the kids in a classroom encased in protective cubicles with a police detective as their new teacher.

The official description: "Randy comes to terms with his role in the COVID-19 outbreak as the on-going pandemic presents continued challenges to the citizens of South Park. The kids happily head back to school but nothing resembles the normal that they once knew; not their teachers, not their homeroom, not even Eric Cartman."

The episode marks the first time the 23-year-old series has ever made an hour-long episode.

South Park revealed the news about the special in a short trailer, which you can check out below:

After close to a quarter of a century on air, South Park remains a huge hit for Comedy Central in the US, and the network recently rewarded the success by renewing the series through 2022.
