We could know if there's an effective Covid vaccine by the end of 2020 - Fauci

America's top infectious diseases expert has predicted we could know whether or not there's a safe Covid vaccine by the end of November or early December

Appearing via video link on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show, Dr Anthony Fauci answered claims made by US President Donald Trump centred around a Covid vaccine.

The United States' top infectious diseases expert said we could know whether or not there's a "safe and effective" Covid vaccine by the end of 2020.

He added about the possibility of this knowledge being acquired by the end of November to early December.

However, taking into account the mass amount of vaccines required globally, Dr Fauci said that vaccines would be made available based on a priority list which would include healthcare workers.

Even if there was an effective Covid vaccine approved this year demand would not be matched until 2021.

Dr Fauci said: We will know whether a vaccine is safe and effective by the end of November, the beginning of December.

The question is, once you have a safe and effective vaccine, or more than one, how can you get it to the people who need it as quickly as possible?

The amount of doses that will be available in December will not certainly be enough to vaccinate everybody, youll have to wait several months into 2021.
