Farm Sanctuary, the non-profit committed to rescuing and rehabilitating farm animals, is celebrating spring by giving their sheep haircuts! The result? Maybe the most mesmerizing and delightful thing I’ve ever seen. Their woolly sheep friends were treated to their annual shearing, just in time to get their bodies ~bikini ready~ for summer. (J/K that would be weird; they are sheep.) They are, however, so damn cute that I want to scream.
The video, which you MUST watch in its entirety, has basically killed me with cuteness:
Farm Sanctuary makes the point that while their shearing is very humane, that is not often the case. Most sheep used for wool are subjected to horrific and dangerous conditions, and don’t get such a lovely experience:
We are asked all the time about shearing, and if it is cruel. The answer is that properly done shearing — shearing done with care, and with the sheep’s well-being in mind — is not cruel, and is in fact very necessary. That said, like any practice — especially when animals are seen as commodities —.
Welp, I will think twice about where my wool comes from!
With that in mind, let us stare at these sheep until we pass out from the sheer (shear? lol? help?) adorableness of it all.
First, a slideshow of before and after:
It’s springtime at our New York Shelter, and that can only mean one thing: Extreme Makeover: Sheep Edition!Last week, our woolly sheep friends were treated to their annual shearing, just in time for the warmer days ahead. Pounds lighter and squeaky clean, these residents couldn’t be happier with their new haircuts! Read more at AnimalsofFarmSanctuary.com
