Bored Panda reached out to the artist behind DARKnoodle comics to learn more about them and their creative process. The cartoonist shared that they started making comics on a whim in June of 2018. "I have a very strange and sometimes dark sense of humor, so I always have a hard time expressing to someone why I just started chuckling to myself for seemingly no reason. I've been doodling and drawing my whole life, so I decided to just start trying to put some of my ideas on paper."

The artist spends around 3 to 4 hours on average to create one comic. "I don't have a creative process. Ideas just pop into my head sometimes, and if I can make it work for a comic, I do it. It often doesn't work when I sit down and actually try to think of something funny."

DARKnoodle comics often explore dark and surreal themes, so we asked the artist what draws them to these types of stories. "The reason I lean towards 'dark' humor is because comedy is almost exclusively based on shock. Even the clean jokes are funny only when you don't see the punchline coming, when you are taken off guard by it. It just so happens that dark and bizarre humor lends itself to that concept more easily, in my opinion. I just like it."

A lot of artists face struggles while doing creative work. For the artist behind DARKnoodle comics, the biggest challenge is finding the time at the moment. "I'm married with two kids, have a full-time job, and I'm working on my bachelor's degree. I haven't put out a new comic in over a year, but I'm not done. I'm just very busy at the moment. I'll never be done because the most rewarding thing about it is seeing something that I thought was just a weird little piece of my brain somehow appealing to hundreds or sometimes thousands of other people. It makes me feel connected. And it feels good to know I've made someone laugh."
