Aimee Lou Wood Calls White Lotus SNL Skit “Mean And Unfunny”

Fresh off of her breakout role as Chelsea on The White Lotus season 3, actress Aimee Lou Wood gains a lot of attention in the media. But one in particular didn’t sit well with the 31-year-old star. She recently called out Saturday Night Live (SNL)’s spoof of her character in the HBO dark comedy where her teeth became the butt of a joke.

“But whilst in honest mood – I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny xo,” the “Sex Education” actor wrote on Instagram.

In the skit, which aired on the show’s April 12 episode, cast member Sarah Sherman played Wood’s character Chelsea, complete with prosthetic to simulate the actress’ buck teeth.

“I am not thin skinned. I actually love being taken the p*** out off when it’s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride. I have a big gap teeth not bad teeth,” Wood explained on Instagram.

She continued by questioning why the joke writing wasn’t “cleverer” and “less cheap”.

“I don’t mind caricature, I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on…” she said. “Okay end of… Yes, take the piss for sure – that’s what the show is about – but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”

After her criticism went viral, the actress said that she’d received apologies from SNL. She also shared that Sherman — who portrayed her in the sketch — sent flowers, likely as a means of apology.
