Rapper Kendrick Lamar was the biggest winner at the 2025 Grammy Awards. On Sunday, the 37-year-old musician snagged trophies in all five categories he was nominated, courtesy of his smash hit diss track, “Not Like Us”.
His quintuple wins include victories in two of the Big 4 categories, Record of the Year and Song of the Year, beating high-profile contenders like Billie Eilish, Beyonce, and Taylor Swift. The rapper also won for Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video.
With the wins on Sunday, Kendrick brings up his Grammy tally to 22, placing him the third most awarded rapper of all time behind only Jay-Z and Kanye West.
Singer Miley Cyrus – winner of last year’s Record of the Year – presented Kendrick with his. In his acceptance speech, Kendrick, decked in head to toe denim, gave a shout out to the city of Los Angeles, still recovering from the devastating fires that engulfed tens of thousands of acres and displaced millions last month. His speech echoes the night’s reflective mood, marked by tributes to the city’s first responders and powerful speeches about social justice.
Kendrick’s triumphant Grammy night caps off a runaway success that began last summer when he dropped “Not Like Us”, meant as a diss against Canadian rival rapper Drake. The back and forth of releases between the two dominated the pop culture zeitgeist. Among them all, “Not Like Us” emerged as a mainstream hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 upon its debut.
And Kendrick’s victory lap isn’t close to done. Next Sunday, the rapper is set to headline the 2025 Super Bowl at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where “Not Like Us” will no doubt become the centerpiece once again.
