Minecraft Update 1.20.5 Is Around the Corner; What New Features Does It Bring?

Minecraft 1.20.5 is a minor update that is confirmed to launch some time next week, between April 22 and April 28.
It will add features such as the armadillo, armadillo scutes, wolf armor, new wolf variants, new advancements and more.
The Minecraft 1.20.5 release candidate 1 also brings changes to the Minecraft Launcher by adding a new Home tab.

Minecraft 1.20.5 is a minor update that will add a couple of fairly exciting new features to the game. The pre-releases for this update were launched back-to-back these past couple of days, and the first release candidate has also arrived today. So, that only means one thing, the update release is right around the corner. So, stick around to find out what’s coming with this little sweet update.

Minecraft 1.20.5 Confirmed Release Window

Since the release candidate phase has begun, the Minecraft 1.20.5 update will be released very soon. Mojang has specified in the official blog post that this update will be shipped sometime next week, so from April 22 to April 28. There is no word on the exact launch day, so keep your eyes peeled.

Confirmed Features

For those confused, Minecraft 1.21 and 1.20.5 are not the same update. The update releasing next week is a smaller update that will contain a few new features. The 1.21 update’s release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s suspected to be somewhere in June. The brand new features coming in the 1.20.5 update are:

Armadillos and tamed wolves with wolf armor

So as you can see, the 1.20.5 update mainly adds the armadillo and wolf content, as well as lots of welcome bug fixes. Though we initially assumed Armadillo and its related content to arrive in the Minecraft 1.21 update, it’s coming sooner. Moreover, this will be the first Java version of Minecraft that requires a 64-bit operating system.

Minecraft Launcher Changes

Minecraft 1.20.5 release candidate 1 has also brought changes to the Minecraft Launcher. It’s now possible to enable the HomePage settings to turn the “News” tab into the “Home” tab. All the important buttons and announcements will be displayed here, from the quick launch buttons to the news feed.
