  • A new device with the model number "A015" has surfaced for BIS certification with the brand name, "CMF by Nothing".
  • The model number does not match up with previous Nothing number series smartphones leading us to belive that it could be a CMF smartphone.
  • While the chances are slim, if there is a CMF smartphone, then it would be targeted towards the budget category.

Following the success of its budget-friendly earbuds lineup, Nothing’s sub-brand, CMF, has expanded its portfolio with devices like a smartwatch and GaN charger. A new report now suggests that the brand might be taking a step-up by developing their first-ever CMF smartphone.

CMF by Nothing smartphone possibly in the works

This report comes from 91mobiles, who spotted a new Nothing device with the model number “A015” and the codename “Tetris”. Initially, assumed to be the upcoming Nothing Phone (3). However, a few hours after it leaked online, the same model number resurfaced for BIS certification. This time, with the brand name “CMF by Nothing”, supporting the assumption that this is not the much-anticipated Phone (3).

This leads us to believe that this could be CMF’s first smartphone in the works. The model number “A015” also does not match up to previous Nothing devices like “A063” for the Phone (1) and “A065” for the Phone (2).

A phone by CMF wouldn’t be that surprising as the sub-brand is trying to establish itself as a budget alternative to Nothing. It also carries some design DNA from its parent company but not all of them. From the model number, I can assume that it could be a budget-friendly phone, priced lower than Nothing Phone (2a). Aside from the model number, there is no information about its specification and price, so take this rumor with a grain of salt.

Sub-brands coming out with their own devices isn’t new. However, how CMF makes a difference in a competitive price category will be interesting to see. And will the new device get the same treatment as other Nothing devices in terms of software updates and features? All this would be interesting to see. As of now, it is not clear whether the spotted device is a smartphone or any other product.

Do you think it would be right for CMF to launch their own devices? I think it is a little early for that. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
